Assignment 5: Discussion – Process Improvement – Throughput Exercise
In a maximum 10-slide PowerPoint presentation (with a minimum of 5-7 references from The Goal or any scholarly or professional sources relating to Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints) select any process from your current place of employment or any other suitable situation – don’t ask me for ideas– you make the decision as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) that needs improvement. In your PowerPoint presentation: a) clearly state the name of the business, process selected for improvement and reason for choosing the process picked for improvement; b) illustrate (using some of the graphic tools available in PowerPoint) how the current process operates (step-by-step; c) calculate how the current process performs in terms of time for each step, number of people involved, approximate cost and quality of output; d) list how long the process existed and who “owns it”; e) identify where bottlenecks exist and their effect on the current process; f) redesign the process to dramatically upgrade efficiency, quality and throughput; g) calculate the value added outcomes of your redesign in terms of time saved, level of quality improvement, dollars saved and etc. and; h) state what the 3 most important lessons you learned from this simulation. Include 5-7 quality scholarly or business references that support your process improvement proposal.
1. Use the “Helpful Videos About Theory of Constraints and Bottlenecks” in the Files section to provide additional background information about this assignment.
2. Use 16 pt. Times New Roman font. Remember this is a PowerPoint presentation so avoid filling each slide with the equivalent of text as if the PowerPoint presentation was an essay.
