Chapter 8: Designing the Save America Democracy Act Well, folks, we finally get to the solutions part of the book. Whether these solutions are feasible (it would take compromise and we know how that goes in a doom loop) and a willingness to see that the problem is the two-party system. People often get in the mindset that because “we’ve always done it this way” that it should never be changed. If that were true, then many horrible things in history would still be around today if we believed things shouldn’t be changed because “we’ve always done it this way”. I imagine most Americans haven’t read this book, would balk at the idea of a multi-party system. But, according to Drutman, keeping the status quo could mean an end to our democracy. 1.What reforms are Constitutional? What behaviors should we reward? How many parties should we have, and why? 2.What reforms would be included in the Save Democracy Act, and how would these reforms save democracy? Pick one of his reforms and discuss. Do you agree or disagree with the reform you picked? Explain why.
