The last 3 chapters ( Chapter 13, 14, & 15) cover the international relations of the Middle East. Politics within states of the Middle East and between states of the Middle East have been shaped by the global ambitions of the great powers — U.S. and U.S.S.R the Cold war; Russia the U.S., China and Europe since the end of the Cold War. Clear examples of how the Middle East has been affected by this completion abound.
After reading the text I want you to select one or two good examples of great power influence either on the political trajectory of a singe state or on the conflict between two or more states or non-states in the case of the Palestinians or Kurds.
Then write an essay in which you clearly demonstrate how great power competition shaped your example(s). Was the influence helpful or harmful. What lessons can you discern from the example.
Be sure to be specific.. Vague generalities just won’t do. Be sure to convince me you read the text.
