This is a persuasive paper. The question asked is “To what extent do you believe that technological advances are contributing to the polarizing atmosphere America is currently experiencing?” Basically, I have to explain how much technology is affecting the divide in people and in politics. Here’s a little example for what my professor is looking for: According to Gerald Graff, “We have always been divided by such factors as geography, political orientation, socioeconomic class, race, gender and age, but in recent years it seems like we have become a nation of people estranged from one another (209). In the past, it was one thing to have disparate views on certain issues or dissimilar political ideologies; however, today it seems that these divisions have grown increasingly contentious, to the point that it is difficult for people to participate in effective critical discourse that will help to bridge the differences that divide us. It can be debated that there are numerous causes for this recent change; however, many critics argue that the advancement and use of technology is the most significant factor causing this divide. I hope that helps. I have sources to use.
